You might be wondering: What exactly does mining software do?
Mining software is what you use to connect your Monero mining equipment and your mining pool to the Monero blockchain.
To learn more about Monero mining hardware, check out our guide where we tell you what equipment you need to mine for a profit.
Here are four mining software downloads that we recommend. These are also listed on the official Monero website, so they are extremely trustworthy. Connect your Monero mining software with a Monero mining pool to ensure more frequent payouts.
When deciding which software to use, you will want to look at a few things.
- Is there a developer fee? If so, how much?
- Does this software support my hardware?
- Does this software support my operating system?
- How difficult is the software to set up?
XMR Stak is a great option, it is a universal Stratum pool miner. It supports CPUs, AMD, and NVIDIA GPUs. This software can mine Monero, Graft, Electroneum, Sumokoin, Aeon and more. Check out this video for an official set-up guide. X
MR Stak by default donates 2% of your hashing power to the developer. This can be changed in the donate-level.hpp file. If you decide to turn off hash power donations, consider donating to their address if you are satisfied with their software.
XMRig is a high-performance Monero (XMR) CPU miner, that has official support for Windows. It was originally based on CPUminer-multi with heavy optimizations/rewrites that removed a lot of legacy code. Since version 1.0.0 it is completely rewritten from scratch on C++.
One huge thing I noticed from this is that the default developer donation is at 5%. This can be changed to 1% if you would like to keep more mining rewards to yourself by the command line option –donate-level
XMRig AMD is a great option for those of you with AMD GPU’s. XMRig is high-performance Monero (XMR) OpenCL miner, that has official full Windows support.
Just like the above option, the default software donation level is 5%. It is important to support developers, but if you would like to reduce the donation % all the way down to 1% it can be done with the command –donate-level.
Here’s a roadmap for upcoming changes to XMRig AMD.
Last but not least, we have XMRig NVIDIA. If you are using an NVIDIA graphics card, then you will want to use this software. By default, XMRig NVIDIA charges a 5% software mining fee. This can be reduced all the way down to 1% by using the command –donate-level.
Is Monero Mining Profitable?
